A Concept That I Like

Tom over at The Small Wave got me to thinking about the PowerBook Duos again. I LOVED THE DUO!

I loved the Duos - so much that I wrote an ebook on them and sold them on eBay for two years. It's a great concept that i think Apple could take further - way further.

What if you had a box that was similar in size to a Mac Pro - with two full size 5.25" bays / a place for a 3.5" hard drive (or maybe a few places) and then two slots for two small 12 inchers, You could buy just the 12 incher or the dock seperately, but here's the kicker, you could dock two 12" inchers and get a quad processor super desktop system. I might mock something up like this and place it on my website.

Nice mockup.

I responded to your post on my site, but completely misread your description.

You're talking about a modern-day Duo, complete with the full desktop component. It's intriguing, but I still think people who want a notebook want to feel like they have the whole thing with them at all times, and not only half of it when they carry it around.

Call it SUV Syndrome, if you will. People want everything all the time, even if they don't need it most of the time.

I agree with you. The Duo's were absolutely fantastic and I could never figure out why they, or others for that matter, never went any further with the concept.

I certainly hope that the day comes - and soon, that the Duo concept of computing is revived. Lets hope so anyway?
