Extreme curse words

Russell Simmons, hip hop mogul, on rap lyrics:

"...the words "bitch," "ho" and "nigger" should be considered "extreme curse words."

Simmons is the first to make a stand against the double standard of racial epithet of certain segments of the rap music industry.

My question is ... when were these words EVER not extreme? Why did we allow them to come into common vernacular? The answer ... no one who is being critisized for using these words uses the words on a regular basis ... it is hypocrisy for any black or any woman to defend against these words if they listen to rap music that contains them.

I applaud Simmons for making the call to the industry he serves ... however ... they are just words - even if "extreme".

My rule of thumb in writing ... if an "extreme word" is part of the telling of the story - I use it. If I have to ADD "extreme" words - I don't.

One thing I detest about many of my Mac blog peers is the free use of four letter words in their writing and the irony of every now and then blogging about their families and posting pictures of their daughters.
