This at first skipped my mind because it registered as something similar to the Wacom Cintiq ... but once I actually visited the Other World Computing Page I realized that this is an ACTUAL MAC not necessarily a heavily modded "pre-existing MacBook":

I wonder if this was pre-announced to see Apple's reaction. I wonder if Apple will care that someone else is selling a "superior Mac"
MacRumors forums posters make the following suggestions:
They likely make you purchase a MacBook (on your dime), ship it to them, and then they modify it to make it a tablet and give it back to you. This would obviously void Apple's warranty so they also likely provide support for this modified MacBook.
... if colorware [which custom paints Macs] can buy macs, paint them, and resell them; why can't a company buy macs, change a few parts, and resell them?
From Other World Computing:
The Axiotron ModBook™

One interesting note:

It's a 'repurposed' Macbook. The guts removed, Wacom's Penabled/EMR system added behind the screen, supplemented with a GPS receiver on the USB bus and placed in a new custom case.
I think that's the case ... I even figured it is most likely very profitable as well. OWC has an eBay account ... I would imagine they will also profit the "removed" pieces as "part sales on Ebay" ... it's still dicey ground ... Outbound computer as precedent or not.
